Potential 2012 Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Projects

1. Small networks of neural cells in culture
The objective of this project is to form networks of up to 10 neurons from snail cells grown in a Petri dish. Once that milestone is achieved, we would like to investigate the response of the cells to externally applied electric fields during neural process development.

2. Implantable electrode characterization and design of novel biocompatible coatings
The lab has previous experience designing electrodes based on carbon nanotubes. We would like to extend that into conductive polymers that are biocompatible and test the electrodes in vitro.
